SuperSat Titration Test Procedure

Acid

  1. Take sample of acid from arch.
  2. Let solution settle until foam subsides.
  3. Rinse the 10cc glass test tube with water or soap solution, then fill the tube with soap solution. (See Figure A).
  4. Pour contents of tube (10cc) into 2oz plastic test bottle. (Refer to Figure B)
  5. Add two (2) drops of blue indicator solution. Sample should have a yellow tint. (See figure C).
  6. Fill calibrated pipette with titration alkali solution (yellow label) to the top calibrated mark. Hold it steady and do not let drops out or air to enter until tip is over test bottle.
  7. Add alkaline until yellow colour disappears and soap solution returns to its original colour.
  8. Count the number of drops it takes to change the colour. This is the titration. (See Figure D).
  9.

    Alkaline

    1. Take sample of alkaline from arch or soap tank.
    2. Let solution settle until foam subsides.
    3. Rinse the 10cc glass test tube with water or soap solution, then fill the tube with soap solution. (See Figure A).
    4. Pour contents of tube (10cc) into 2oz plastic test bottle. (Refer to Figure B)
    5. Add two (2-4) drops of blue indicator solution. Sample should have a blue tint. (See Figure C).
    6. Fill calibrated pipette with test acid to the top calibrated mark. Hold it steady and do not let drops out or air to enter until tip is over test bottle.
    7. Add titration acid (orange label) until blue colour disappears and soap solution returns to its original colour. Count the number of drops it takes to change the colour. This is the titration (See Figure D).
